Barb Moran is 55. She was born in Mitchell, South Dakota. Originally, according to Barb, doctors diagnosed her as “schizophenric”, but they did this, because no one really knew what autism was. Barb attended grammar school at Menninger’s Psychiatric Center, where she grew up. She graduated from a public school in Topeka Kansas. Barb says through her childhood and adulthood, “professionals” were trying to “help her” by telling her to stop drawing. They said her art made her mental illness worse. Now, Barb’s drawings of airplanes are beautiful testaments to her creativity and staying power.
