Opening Reception,  September 8th from 11:30am - 1:30pm

Visionaries & Voices presents Bride & Groom Collide at the Cincinnati Art Museum (CAM) in the Art 101 Gallery, opening September 5, 2010 with a reception on September 8th from 11:30am-1:30pm. The exhibition addresses the complex subject matter of falling in love and runs in conjunction with CAM’s Wedded Perfection: Two Centuries of Wedding Gowns.

Our modern-day world presents everyone with obstacles to overcome on the journey to love.  The V&V studios are often abuzz with conversations about how the artists face additional complications to romance that mainstream Americans may not know about or understand.  Obstacles like arranging transportation for dinner and a movie, talking on the phone, or receiving approval from family and caregivers, are everyday challenges for persons living with a disability.

Love is an important part of the lives of the artists at V&V and continually influences their decisions and their futures.   Bride & Groom Collide provides an opportunity for artists with disabilities to express their honest opinions, their ideas, and their dreams about forging a loving relationship.

“I like people in love. They argue, fight, and are best friends,”  states V&V Artist, David Callahan, who will have his work, “Man and Woman Looking for Each Other” on display in the exhibit.

More than 40 V&V artists  have revealed their personal beliefs on the subject for the exhibit, and have created new paintings, sculptures, and drawings that are insightful and emotionally powerful. The artwork in the exhibit, as does most work by self-taught artists, has noticeable influences by the American folk art and the abstract expressionism movements.
