Courttney Cooper

Courttney Cooper started coming to Visionaries and Voices, a nonprofit arts organization and studio located in Northside, Ohio, in early 2004. Here he quickly made a name for himself as a remarkable artist generating exquisite work, driven by self-motivation. He is recognized for his obsessive, highly detailed, tapestry-like ink drawings on paper. His work ranges from intricate "Bic" ink drawings to watercolor and acrylic paintings, all of various sizes. Courttney's main subject matter consists of Cincinnati landmarks and maps of the city. Some of the landmarks he frequently masterfully renders are Fountain Square, The Museum Center, and The Great American Ballpark, creating large 3-D aerial views of Greater Cincinnati. Courttney often walks the streets of Cincinnati committing all the places he visits down to memory. This is a unique and astounding process that he has been using since he was a child. His visual influences are from Yellow Pages and images seen on the 11 O'clock news. Each of his drawings includes current construction and demolition sites, as well as many personal additions expressing current seasons, events, and projects going on locally. Through out the sprawling maps, are written thoughts and places hidden beneath the landscape and revealed within the open white space of the paper. Courttney's pictorial portrayal of the city through a fine clustering of line work and detail create a unique and awe inspired image of his surroundings
