Donald Henry
 1966 - 2009

Donald Henry maintained a limited but striking body of images. He drew portraits that took on the appearance of robots. Early in his career he would assign each rendition a unique number across a chest plate; this was thought to represent the individuals who were in his life while he was institutionalized, but while Donald worked at V&V, it soon became evident that the numbers were meant to distinguish between the many significant people in his life. He drew the people most familiar and closest to him. They were distinctly male or female and easily recognized as such. The other iconic image that Donald rendered was a building that could represent a house or a restaurant that he like to frequent. After moving to a group home setting and becoming involved on work enclaves, the value of Donald's work become more apparent. The V&V studio at Tri-County was established with him as the inspiring artist, and as such, he was the first artist a the new studio in the spring of 2007.

Donald Henry's works were exhibited widely in V&V studio and galleries, most recently in the V&V Northside exhibit "Abstract Trances."
