Visionaries + Voices is an inclusive arts organization providing creative, professional, and educational opportunities for adults with disabilities.

The concept for Visionaries + Voices emerged in 2001 when Keith Banner and Bill Ross curated an exhibition in Base Gallery for artists Paul Rowland, Richard Brown, Antonio Adams, and Raymond Thunder-Sky. Bill and Keith both worked for county boards serving individuals with disabilities and met these artists over the course of their work. After that initial exhibition, more opportunities arose to organize shows and present the work of artists with disabilities.

Upcoming Exhibitions:

ICONS: QUEER WORSHIP OF CELEBRITY

Visionaries and Voices is proud to announce the upcoming exhibition entitled ICONS: Queer Worship of Celebrity organized by guest curator Josh Porter and featuring artists Claire Thompson and Scott Walker, as well as 10 icons from V+V artists and staff. The exhibition opens Friday, May 17th, and will run in conjunction with JOY FUEL Pride workshops and activities at V+V made possible by ArtsWave Pride Grant.

This exhibition takes our understanding of a Byzantine Catholic icon and applies that to contemporary pop culture celebrities. In ICONS: Queer Worship of Celebrity, these artworks and celebrities become icons in their own right; serving as images of worship and devotion for those in the LGBTQ+ community. From Judy Garland to Lindsay Lohan, this exhibition exists as a place for visitors to immerse themselves in the wondrous glory of those who have defined pop culture.

In conjunction with the Opening of ICON: Queer Worship of Celebrity, we invite you to participate in our next JOY FUEL workshop, Badge of Pride!

EXHIBITION OPENING: May 17th 5-8PM

BUTTON MAKING WITH BECKY MASON + BRIAN DOOLEY

A Button-Making Workshop Inspired by the Ohio Lesbian Archive, Friday, May 13th, 6-8PM

In this hands-on workshop, you will have the opportunity to learn about political buttons in the present and the past with examples from Ohio Lesbian Archive. Buttons are intersectional identity signifiers for anyone with something to say. Buttons represent a variety of issues, be it feminism, disability advocacy, or racial justice. As queer people fought battles across the decades we have created and earned these badges of pride, resistance, and visibility.

This workshop is open to all ages and abilities, no registration required
