DAVID CALLAHAN
David Callahan was a painter that worked consistently from painting to painting but expresses a new story each time. David’s subject matter was inspired by the intensity of his dreams and his vibrant imagination. Within each of his works figures, faces, homes, trees, and other living objects are hidden or revealed in layers of color. The most common characteristics of his paintings are a vibrant palette and unique use of space within the composition. The landscape is a reoccurring subject matter, where David’s unexpected color choices and scale shifts push his compositions toward abstraction.
David created forms in ceramic by disengaging shapes from their grounding, David is able to make endless combinations of natural and animal forms. In his final days on this Earth, David contributed to a mural of his work prominently displayed on Hamilton Ave.
